The men of Easy Company went home in stages through the second half of 1945, on a points system that counted months served, combat awards and children at home. The company was formally deactivated on 30 November 1945.

Transfer to Franz Josef Strauss airport and fly home. Flights need to leave after 10:00 — worth checking before booking anything.
The tour ends at the airport. Transfer from the hotel in the morning, and the one hard scheduling rule of the whole itinerary: departing flights must be after 10:00. Book earlier than that and you are making your own way there.
Nine days, west to east
Paris to Munich, four countries, and a route that runs from a beach in Normandy to a mountaintop in Bavaria in the same direction the fighting went.
What I expect to be carrying home is not the big set-pieces. Everyone who has done this trip says the same thing, and it is always about scale: the field at Brécourt is just a field. The run from the treeline down to Foy is four minutes’ walk. The sand at Omaha is three hundred metres. Every one of these places is smaller than the story that happened in it, and standing in them apparently does not resolve that — it just makes it permanent.
What happens to this site
This entry, and the eight before it, are written before the trip. They are an itinerary and the history behind it, not a record — every page says so, and every photograph currently on the site was taken on an earlier tour of the same route in July 2023.
After 18 September 2026 each day gets rewritten with what actually happened, its status flipped from planned to travelled, and its photographs replaced with my own.
If you are reading this after that date and it still says planned, I have not got round to it yet.
